We decided to make a summer trip 2020 to Lapland in the North – to Öland in the South during covid restrictions. Being locked up in Sweden we had an opportunity to rediscover the countryside up North. Sweden is remarkable – solitude, real wilderness is available just about everywhere. Dirt roads and tracks in plenty, too
Rural Sweden not in progress. Travelling our own country’s off grid parts for only a few days, iit was evident wealth is not spread equally. ”Major” locations are littered with abandoned properties. Most likely this ”development” will continue.
In Swedish Lapland off the main roads encounters with wildlife like raindeers is common place.
Further up further north from Arjeplog we went on to the closed border to Norway at Riksgränsen via Ritsem, Gällivare, Kiruna, Abisko and other small places
One day reasonable weather arrived enabling us a hike (by chopper) from Nikkaluokta to the highest mountain top in Sweden – Kebnekaise. Modest altitude of only abt 2500 m – close to the wonderful Tarfala valley.
